What
About My Art? What Do I Do?
I've been a Sumi-e painter for 35 years. Using Chinese ink, watercolors,
gouache, ground mineral pigments and various other fun stuff on rice paper,
I paint flowers, animals, landscapes, and abstract renditions of things
I know and love.
My personal painting style is based on traditional
and contemporary Asian brush painting techniques. Emphasis is on brush
loading and brush manipulation, control of ink/color and water on the
absorbent rice paper, and "chi"/life force of the painting. The whole
idea is to gain complete control over the materials so that you can let
go of control.
I also receive great enjoyment and fulfillment by sharing my love of
painting with others. I have been teaching for many years, with workshops,
painting expeditions, and demonstrations in such beautiful places as Minnesota,
Florida, Wisconsin, Alaska, Washington, Virginia, New York, Guatemala,
and France.
